About HIP: A Next-Generation Business
HIP Communications Corp. was founded in 2005 with the goal to deliver next-generation Voice Over IP applications across its target customers' existing data infrastructures. These applications are hosted within Accelerated Connections Inc. (ACI) 3000 square feet of data centre facilities at 151 Front Street West in Toronto and distributed across Canada to several locations simultaneously. HIP's name is actually derived from the term Hosted Internet Protocol which accurately describes the method in which its services are delivered.
While many types of businesses can benefit from Hosted IP applications, those with multiple locations are an obvious fit. HIP's sister company, Accelerated Connections Inc., has built a network across Canada and currently services a wide range of retailers with multiple locations. Many of HIP's applications are specifically designed with this distributed market base in mind.
Our goal is to surpass each customer's expectations and become the trusted provider of hosted IP applications for their business.
Leadership
Michael Garbe is the President of both HIP Communications Corp. and Accelerated Connections Inc.
Prior to launching HIP, Michael started ACI in July 2000. Through Michael’s leadership, ACI has acquired over 7000 business circuits, mostly retail, and has built a one-of-a-kind national ADSL network in Canada. In the fall of 2008, ACI built a new state-of-the art data centre at 151 Front Street West and now provides co-location space to a multitude of customers including HIP.
In addition to operating HIP and Accelerated Connections, Michael is an active board member of CAIP (Canadian Association of Internet Providers), which is an advocacy group for independent ISPs. Michael sits on the negotiating committee of CAIP and is responsible for negotiating pricing with ILECs and Cablecos as it relates to wholesale pricing for all ISPs across Canada. Prior to HIP and Accelerated Connections, Michael owned and operated Northgrove Technologies for 10 years. Northgrove was a manufacturer’s representative of U.S.-based high-tech products including SanDisk and Netopia.
