Got Questions?
Q. What is a web-hosted PBX?
PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange – the internal telephone exchange system supporting one business. A PBX system allows customers to call a business and be transferred to the appropriate employee or department; it also allows for calls to be transferred or put on hold. Originally, these systems were introduced so companies could manage their office phone systems through in-house operators.
Today, instead of just connecting calls, PBX systems connect any type of technology that transmits through phone lines, including computer modems.
Q. How is HIP’s VoIP solution different from traditional business phone systems?
Unlike traditional PBXs, HIP’s solution is fully integrated with other telecommunications technologies. This means you can do things with a hosted PBX you could never do with a traditional, analog PBX.
For instance, you can change your phone features or set up a teleconference online through our HIP Web Portal. You can tell the HIP Auto Attendant to automatically transfer your calls to a cell or home phone if you can’t be reached at your desk. You can easily turn a voice mail message into an audio attachment that you can send in an e-mail.
Unlike traditional PBXs, a hosted exchange requires no heavy telecom equipment to be installed in your office, which means lower overhead costs and less need for on-site technical support staff. And the Auto Attendant, with its many advanced features, means you will also save money on reception duties and administrative staff.
Q. How do I know if HIP’s web-hosted PBX is right for me?
Our hosted PBX really is right for a company of just about any size. Whether you are a one-office outfit with just a few employees, or whether you are a mid-sized or large corporation with many branches and departments, our business communications solution will work for you.
Hosted PBX is especially useful for companies that need to communicate frequently between branches and offices and don’t want to spend a lot of money doing it; for companies with a large sales component, which requires constant communication; and for companies that need sophisticated phone solutions but don’t want to spend large amounts of money on telecom equipment and technical staff.
Q. What kind of quality/reliability can I expect from HIP’s web-hosted PBX?
HIP provides a reliable IP phone system with excellent sound quality. Unlike most VoIP services, HIP’s hosted PBX doesn’t rely on the public Internet for connectivity, which means we can provide a level of service most IP phone services can’t.
At HIP, we understand that in order to provide secure, reliable hosted IP PBX services, the voice service provider must own the network end to end. If your existing voice service provider doesn't own their own network, how can they guarantee the levels of service you'll receive?
Additionally, our voice services switch is fully redundant, meaning there’s always a backup ready to go in the unlikely event something goes wrong.
Q. My company is growing/shrinking right now? Does a hosted PBX commit me to a level of service that may be inappropriate in the future?
HIP Communications understands that all businesses are going through tumultuous times right now. Some companies are cutting back, while others are expanding aggressively. Our web-hosted PBX is fully scalable, meaning you can make it as big or as small as your company needs it to be.
Our Direct Inward Dialing (DID) feature allows you assign an individual phone number to every desk, employee, or department at your company, without actually having a separate physical line for every phone. So however large (or small) your company needs to become, HIP’s hosted PBX can meet your needs.
